Database acipmdv on server Dev1Database acipmdv on server Dev2 My task was to remove the db from dev2. I knew the previous dba haddone something recently to have the db on Dev2 acting as a standbydatabase for Dev1. Have never had my hands on such a beast.
Before beginning work I did a 'show parameter' (on Dev1) and spooledit, so I have captured all of the init parms. There I found log_archive_dest_3 = service=(descrip.... read more

Strangest thing recently happened on my Slackware 10.0 box... I can nolonger watch any video files. I'm running KDE 3.2 and haven't had anyproblems. Nothing's changed as far as I know. But now, regardless ofthe application I'm using, videos are all black and I only get theaudio. This seems to be happening for video files of any codec and inany video playing application (the ones that can't handle the error, whatever it is, very well just die).
I'm at a loss as to what.... read more

I decided to install 2009.1 on my main PC (runs 2008.0 now). I worry aboutthe transition KDE3 - KDE4.
As my home partition is separate from the rest, I can imagine there beingproblems running kde4 with kde3 config files? I think I've seen somewherethat KDE4 creates a separate directory, so that would maybe not be so muchof a problem.
The problem might be to transfer a series of settings (knode, kontact, konqueror, may be a few more?) to the new KDE.
I looked around in the KDE site for a ki.... read more

Hi all, I am trying to build a serializable javabean.
What can I do with inputstream? Should I always read the whole stream andput that into a byte[] attribute? This doesn't seem a good solution.
What else could I do?Thanks.

I have a tablespace comprised of 450 files.
I recently dropped a 400GB table from this tablespace. The table has27000 extents.
I'd now like to re-size each of the 450 files to its smallest possiblesize.
I'd like to have a script that can determine each file's smallestpossible size and generate the RESIZE syntax, which I will spool andrun.
Does anyone have a query that produces this required syntax? Thanks.

Hi all.
In RISC OS, if you drag the right-hand side of a window to the right- hand side of the screen, it automatically expands the left-land side of the window to the left.
Is there a way to turn this off? I find it rather annoying that it expands my window to the left, when all I want to do is to align the right-hand side of the window with the right-hand side of the screen.

I just switched from red hat to suse and I ran into a problem duringinstall. During the hard drive detection phase of the install suse sees theprimary master and slave drives as hde and hdf instead of hda and hdb. Ihave (4) hard drives on my Linux box and the partition table and drive ID'salways read correct when I ran red hat. Can anyone tell me why suse sees thepartition table backwards? Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide.
