I have a 20 drive SGI Challenge labelled Clariion unit (circa late 90's I think)- each drive is 7200 rpm 18 gig. The chassis is 2 channel diff scsi, I have each channel connected to its own controller in a U80. Thats all working fine.
Not having experience with raid units, I'm trying out various concepts for allocating the drives, but so far I've been unable to find a configuration that will give me better than 10 megabytes/sec throughput. The local drives in the U80 routinely exc.... read more

The following is one entry. As you can see, it does not have CLIENTTERMINAL information, and I don't know how to track this to find outwhich processes or application or background process is causing thissys login, so frequently.

I'm trying to pull together a testsuite of things not to do in C/C++ programs on linux, from a vulnerability perspective. Sorta like strcpy( auto_buffer, getenv(VAR) ); et. al.
I find bits here and there but nothing *comprehensive*. Anybody know of lists/documents/examples? Thanks-J

Hi Everybody! Is there a way to eval a string in Java? For example, I would like 1+ 1 to eval to 2 or (1*1 > 3) && (2+2 < 5). In other words I wouldlike the following to return false given a=1, b=1, c=2, d=2. How can Iwrite the method called eval shown below? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have 3 ANT NICs for RiscPC, 2 of them have EtherB v4.23 and work fine with RISC OS v4.02 to v4.39. The third has AUN Discless Boot RiscPC600 v1.27 and does various nasties which I don't choose to investigate :-( Can anyone tell me where I might be able to get the third card's ROM replaced so it matches the other 2. I'm sure there was a firm that took over RISC OS networking from ANT Ltd but I can't find any link to it.
Brian.

I originally posted this query on the Firefox newsgroup, but after somepointers and further testing, it seems more of an issue for Suse, eitherYast/YOU or for the Suse distribution of Firefox.
I am running Suse 10.0 with all patches. I was running Firefox 1.5.0.6.0-1(and have been running Firefox/Mozilla/Netscape for many years).
Saturday, I get YOU notice that there is a security update to Firefox1.5.0.6.1-2.
I download and install it using the Suse YOU installer. Now I try tolaunch Firefox.... read more

How many threads can one application have at the same time in Java? Is there a roof? Is it platform dependent, in that case, what is the number for SUN's JVM on WIN32? Any info on this would help me.

I have some kernel-specific tools for ATM networking that work onlyfor redhat kernels 2.4.1-1. I snooped around the ftp sites of redhatand found theres a ksymoops-2.4.1-1 for RedHat 7.2 but no kernel2.4.1-1 anywhere. I found 2.4.2 in 7.2 and in 7.1 all we have is 2.2kernels.
Since the tools compiled are kernel specific, I'd really like to knowwhere I can get the fabled 2.4.1-1 kernel for redhat 7.2. Is it in aninitrd file accessable by installing RedHat?
