Hi All I had some problems with usb ports and at one stage reformatted my flash disk under WinXP thinking that would help. Silly me it turned out to be a hardware problem (now fixed) However, when I plug in the flash disk to Fedora, the correct line is inserted to /etc/fstab.. so far so good. But when I try to mount the disk, I get error - unknown file system. I reformatted as FAT & FAT32 in WinXP but same thing.

1) Booting from different minor releases of Solaris Is there a way to boot from different minor releases of Solaris ? ( e.g.: between Solaris 8 Update 7 vs. Solaris 8 Update 6 ) In linux, I can have multiple kernels installed and during boot, I can choose between any of them ( say, from 2.4.7, 2.4.18, 2.4.19 ).
2) Virtualisation Is there a way to virtualise another instance of Solaris within Solaris itself ... just like what UserMode Linux does ?

Hi!I've a strange (for me at last) performance problem.
I've two very similar tables FORM_TROUBLETICKET_9 and FORM_SERVICETICKET_4.
Because of this similarity I have somtimes to query the data in one of the two tables, somtimes I have to query the data in both tables. So I use a union all view FORM_XTICKET.
The thing is, that the same query is don within one or two seconds if performed on the table directly but lasts up to 10 minutes when performed on the view.
I've done an explain.... read more

I'm doing a draft for an article which includes some technical drawings made with DrawWorksXL . Using Publisher Plus since I'm most familiar with it. One of the drawfiles I'm using has arrows in it - created in the normal way in Draw. They come out as just straight lines in Publisher. Any way round this? -- *A closed mouth gathers no feet.* Dave Plowman dave@davenoise.co.uk London SW To e-mail, change noise into sound.

I've got a problem that has not yielded to my normal process ofGoogling for hours, reading man pages, and asking the guys at work.
I recently installed RedHat 9 on my Toshiba laptop which uses aNetgear FA411 PCMCIA ethernet card.
The installation went perfectly, and networking came up with noproblems at all.
Local accounts can log in graphically using Gnome, KDE, or Icewm (addedto the GDM menu myself). No problem.
When I have it connected to my home LAN, and start up NIS and autofs, like .... read more

I googled on the subject and found a lot of references to decrease the speedof the CD device, butthat's not what I'm after.
My youngest daughter is doing ballet as a hobby, and for their nextperformance, they want a specific piece of music, but on the CD they have, the rythm is too fast for them. So they need a way to play (and recordback) this piece on a rythm they can handle.
It is possible with Intervideo DVD on my not-so-favorite second OS, but Ifound no reference of a Linux program.... read more

Current setup------------- My company operates a LAN for about 40 PCs and above. There is a rackof hubs/switches, to which PCs are connected; a Linux Fedora server isone of them.
Internet access is provided through the server, to which an ADSL modemis connected (Lucent CellPipe); in other words, internet traffic isrouted through the server (it has 2 network cards).
The company now wants to replace the modem with a wireless broadbandmodem (with iBurst technology); ie PCs go through LAN, through.... read more
