I had lost a very important (to me) directory. Based on previous postshere, I believed that I could possibly recover deleted files by runningreiserfsck --rebuild-tree --scan-whole-partition /dev/hdb2.
I booted from KNOPPIX 4.0. I first tried it on a copy (dd if=/dev/hdb2of=/dev/hdb6, then reiserfsck on hdb6), and it recovered thousands offiles, as well as correcting some disk errors. Even though it onlylocated one of the files that I lost, based on all of the disk errors,I decided to run it o.... read more

(Re-posted, as original sems to havev gone astray...) Looking for a genealogy program for Mandriva (2007).
Having Googled, I've seen a reference to a port of Gramps to Mandriva, butMCC doesn't seem to know about it.
Also looked at the Gramps site, which said that - with Mandriva - one justdid urpmi gramps, but the response when I tried that was: No package named gramps (and I have 'contrib' as a source in urpmi setup).
Ideas welcome!

Just about to set up our new Oracle server. The box is a Dell PowerEdge 2850, Dual Xeon 3.6GHz with 4 Gb RAM and 4x 18Gb 15,000 RPM Drives. I am about to set up the RAID array and am unsure as what would be best. I was originally going to use RAID 5 but am unsure now as I have read so many bad things about using it with Oracle. Some form of redundancy is requred so here are my proposed alternatives: 1) 2x RAID 1 arrays - this would give me a total of 36Gb and as each volume would be mirror.... read more

Hi.
Hope someone can help.
I've got a Risc PC with RISC OS 3.70 which makes no reference to CD ROMS at all. CDFS is not available, *status has nothing with CD in it and *help makes no mention either of anything with CD in it (eg *help cd.).
I currently don't have one attached at the moment, but will be doing so soon - does this make a difference? Though I hope to connect it to an IDE Podule I originally thought it might be the motherboard, but the machine with the Cumana interface .... read more
