Upgrading NT to 2003 or 2000

I am having an very difficult time upgrading NT 4 service pack 6a to win2k or win2003. This is not a shell install I have applications on these. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or could point me to the right place to start. I am trying these on IBM xseries machines
